Every Kids First Building Block

Do you still have memories of the very first time you build something yourself? If you do, it will highly likely be on a Lego set.

Psycho-motor skills is a very important area we need to develop when kids are in their toddler years. During this period, they are at their most active, imaginative and are probably also very sensitive to their environment. Hence with the correct tools toys, you will accelerate their psycho-motor ability. Lego is a very relevant set of toys to develop this. To divert their energy and attention of their surrounding to somewhere useful, having them build stuff using their own creativity is much better than trying to crush candy on a 10 inch screen (or worst still, on a freaking small phone).

The experience they can gather from building up stuff from scratch and playing with the finish product is definitely useful in terms of building up that motor skills and teaching them to appreciate what they can achieve by themselves.

Even if you do not agree with this post, you will agree that there must be a reason why Lego had been around since 1949. So start teaching your kids to build stuff for themselves instead of crushing some candies on screen.

Learn During Play

Kids have wonderful memory. You will be surprised by what they remember when you have only taught them once. This part of their memory skills greatly increase when they are doing something they enjoy. In that sense, its means when they are playing.

To have them learn while playing, you will need to engage them in activities that are fun, innovative, and informative. I always like to play 5 sense (sight, hear, taste, touch, smell) with kids. It let them learn some basic vocabulary and also have fun at the same time. The game is easy to play and it can easily catch the attentions of 1 to 3 years old. Simply sit them in an environment (or you an walk around with them) which have multiple activities going on (i.e. in a park). Take note and mention to them about things that are happening with simple vocabulary. For example, if you see an ice cream seller, you can tell the kid that he is hearing the bell ringing and the sound is "Ding Ding Ding". You can also teach them color simply by pointing to the clear sky and say "Blue". You will be amaze at how much they can absorb in a short time span. Most important thing to note is be in an environment with enough activities to keep them occupied.

Other than simple games, there are also very interesting toys in the market that can teach our children while they play. Of course, we will need to be careful and avoid toys that do not let children interact with the real world. We do not want them to turn into some robots and start speaking to touchscreen devices instead of human beings.

Let Your Kids Play With The Correct Toys

There are so many toys in the market one can choose from for their kids. The toughest part is choosing the correct ones.

There had been research to show that using too much touchscreen devices like smartphones and tablets will hamper the development of children. For me personally, I totally agree with this article. A child will learn and improve better in an environment where it involves psycho-motor and human interaction. It will also be good if there are involvement of mother nature. Too much interaction with tech devices will hinder the process of learning to communicate with real humans for the kids and thus might causes the children to have problem communicating with the society in the long run.

Watch out this space for more updates on my thoughts on how to let children learn the fun way.
